To pass the time, I've been watching some movies.
And since I'm so bored, why not post some thoughts?
Two of which I watched were King's Speech and Blue Valentine.
King's Speech:
Plot: Following the death of his father, as well as the abdication of his brother, King George VI (Colin Firth) is forced to take over the position as the King. However he suffers from severe speech impediments. His wife (Helena Bonham Carter) however, hires an unlikely vocal coach in Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush) to help solve this problem.
I never knew much about history, especially that of England's, and I thought this movie would bore me to death because I generally hate all this "old-age" movies, but I was extremely pleased and surprised. Wasn't dry, wasn't dull. Firth, BC, and Rush all put out some amazing performances. Don't think this movie will win Best Movie, but at least I can hope the actors/actress would not go home empty handed.
Blue Valentine:
Plot: A jumbled timeline showing the formation, blossoming, and ending of the relationship between a couple Dean (Ryan Gosling) and Cindy (Michelle Williams).
As simple as it sounds, the movie was gut wrenching. Whilst an original movie, it is what I imagine in couples who have been at one time so in love with one another, but the good time ends when love runs out. Really interesting. Ryan Gosling will probably be nominated for some awards, but his performance pales in comparison to Firth.
